Paintbrushes in glass jars sit on a table alongside a plastic container and packaged materials, with abstract artwork hanging on the wall behind them. Logos for the MSU Union Art Gallery and Surplus Store and Recycling appear overlaid at the bottom of the image.

Patchwork: Reclaiming Space

A collaborative exhibition

January 12-February 14 | Reception: January 22, 5-7pm

MSU Union Art Gallery | 49 Abbot Rd. East Lansing, MI | Room 230

Patchwork: Reclaiming Space is an open invitation to pause, make, and remember. Here, book covers become personal narratives, shaped from scraps of paper, marks of color, fragments of memory. Add your story to the shelves. Work alongside others at the communal table or settle into a quiet nook by the windows. Assemble or stitch a fabric patch and add it to the evolving upcycled tapestry. Drop in between classes, continue a collage, begin a new one, or contribute another patch.

By the conclusion of the exhibition, the gallery will hold a vibrant collection of stories woven together forming a collective portrait of our community.

This show is made possible through collaboration with the Department of Art, Art History, & Design and Spartan Upcycle, the student-centered creative reuse branch of the MSU Surplus Store & Recycling Center (SSRC). Special thanks to Dr. Andrea Allen, head of the AAHD Art Education Area; Katie Deska Radigan, Education & Upcycle Coordinator at SSRC; and students Lauren Rader and Reegan Loveland for helping this exhibition come to fruition.
