Assaggiatrici (The Tasters)
April 10 7:00 PM
PLOT: Autumn 1943. Rosa, fleeing bombed-out Berlin, reaches a small, isolated village near the eastern border. This is where her in-laws live and where her husband, fighting on the front lines, had instructed her to take refuge while awaiting his return. She soon discovers that the seemingly peaceful village hides a secret: within the bordering forest is Hitler’s headquarters, the Wolf’s Lair. The Führer sees enemies everywhere and is obsessed with a fear of being poisoned. One morning, Rosa is taken, along with other young women from the village, to taste the food prepared for him. Torn between the fear of death and hunger, the tasters form alliances, friendships, and secret pacts. Rosa, the Berliner, struggles to be accepted. But when she finally overcomes the distrust towards her, something happens that will make her feel guilty.

La Vita va Cosi (Life is Life)
April 11, 5:00 PM
PLOT: Two worlds collide on an unspoiled stretch of coastline in southern Sardinia. Efisio Mulas is a solitary shepherd, the silent guardian of a time that seems to no longer exist. He has lived there forever, between the sea and his animals, in the small house where he was born. On the other side is Giacomo, president of a powerful real estate group, a symbol of an Italy striving towards the future. He is determined to transform that coast into a luxury resort. When Efisio refuses yet another multi-million dollar offer, the negotiation turns into a legal battle which Giovanna, a judge born and raised in the area, is called upon to decide.
As the pressure mounts and the community is divided between those who dream of new job opportunities and those who fear losing their identity forever, Efisio’s unwavering “no” takes on a collective meaning. Unwavering in the value of his choices and the memory of those who came before him, Efisio knows that sometimes, precisely because “that’s how life is,” you have to stop and decide for yourself where to go.
