Sculptor and installation artist Shelby Freehling (Art, Art History, and Design) will give a twenty-minute viewing of her Graduate Arts Fellowship project in the DSL’s 360 room. The video follows the day-to-day tasks of a character (played by herself) and the spaces between the tasks exploring distraction, and escape. Through overlapping videos, and sound the project asks the questions “Where does our mind wander and long to be while juggling life’s obligations? What do we notice or ignore in our environments? And is it possible to find stillness and reflection?” The video is shown alongside sculptures that aim to emulate home and transitory states. After the viewing the artist will give a twenty-minute talk about the development and process behind the project followed by a ten-minute Q and A.
