EPIP Seminar: Gabi VanWassenhnova:Taking the Crime out of Sex Work
Gabi VanWassenhnova presents the EPIP Seminar, “Taking the Crime out of Sex Work: My Summer with Aotearoa New Zealand Sex Workers’ Collective.”
Abstract: This summer, I worked with the New Zealand Sex Workers’ Collective (NZPC) at their offices in Auckland and Wellington. The NZPC is a nonprofit organization which advocates for the well-being, safety, dignity, and rights of all sex workers. The organization was instrumental in passing the Prostitution Reform Act (PRA) in 2003. For my presentation, I will outline some questions I explored during my internship: How has the passing of the PRA affected conditions for sex workers? What are the limits of the law in addressing the ongoing issues that workers face? And how can collective organizing help address these issues?
