AAHD Open Studio

MSU Opens Art and Design Studios to the Public for November 13 Open Studio

Free event invites visitors to explore student artwork, working studios, demonstrations, and hands-on activities.

Michigan State University’s Department of Art, Art History, and Design (AAHD) will host an Open Studio on Friday, November 13, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kresge Art Center. The event, featuring MSU’s Studio Art and Graphic Design programs, is free and open to the public.

For one evening, visitors will have an opportunity to explore the spaces where MSU students make their work. Classrooms, studios, and hallways will feature student artwork, works in progress, and opportunities to meet students and learn about their creative practices.

Activities planned across the evening include printmaking demonstrations, opportunities to see students working in ceramics and painting studios, sculpture demonstrations and activities, and hands-on projects that invite visitors to make something of their own. Graphic Design will also participate, sharing student work and offering visitors an opportunity to engage with the program. Undergraduate and graduate students will participate, offering a look at the range of creative work taking place within MSU’s Department of Art, Art History, and Design.

More than an exhibition, Open Studio is an opportunity to experience the creative life of the department firsthand. By opening working spaces to the public, the event encourages connections among students, faculty, families, prospective students, and the wider community.

The evening will follow Kristen Duckworth’s opening reception at MSU’s Union Gallery, providing visitors with an opportunity to experience both events.
