The artists in this show were tasked with responding to the question, “What does it mean for something to be cursed in 2026?” Cursed objects do not start out cursed; they are typically mundane objects that collect stories as tragedy strikes. Curses become a device for remembering those stories.

The pieces in the show carry themes centered around illness, labor, generational curses, and cursed landscapes and space. At first glance, some of the works may seem like typical cursed objects (in fact, one of them is), but do not be swayed; One of the main reasons cursed objects existed in the past was from lack of information, which these artists are brimming with. The artists in this show are not willing to accept their fate of being cursed, and many created objects centered around themes of regaining agency or even created art that extracted curses out of them. Even so, when a cursed object is still, and much remains unknowable, we are merely walking into the aftermath.

Each piece has a story, and we highly encourage you to read when able.
