Haunting Religion: Using Horror and Faith to Make Meaning

Join the Department of Religious Studies for this special Halloween Lecture from Brandon R. Grafius, Associate Professor of Biblical Studies and Academic Dean at Ecumenical Theological Seminary, Detroit. Drawing from his recent book, Lurking Under the Surface: Horror Religion and the Questions that Haunt Us (Broadleaf Books) and using films such as The Lighthouse and Sunshine and television series such as Midnight Mass, Professor Grafius will explore how both religion and the horror genre demonstrate connections both obvious and unexpected, and how horror can serve as both a critique of religious traditions and a means of taking them seriously.
