Synthesizing the Sound of Space

This hybrid talk/demonstration will look at the role of the transistor in how the sounds of space are both created and captured. We’ll look at the history of transistors and synthesizers, talk about how NASA is collecting and disseminating sounds from space, and then Dr. Vasko will perform some live sound synthesis using a variety of field recordings, additional instruments, and VCVRack (a free & open-source Eurorack simulator).

Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and participate!
