Translating Popular Comics about Chinese Classics with Dr. Brian Bruya
Hosted by Professor Jon Keune, MSU Department of Religious Studies.
In addition to his research on classical Chinese thought, Dr. Bruya has translated over a dozen books by the Taiwanese illustrator Chih-Chung Tsai that bring classical Chinese texts into the popular medium of comics. In his talk, Dr. Bruya will talk about CC Tsai’s original work for Chinese readers, as well as the challenges of translating the language and ideas contained in these books for English readers.
This event is made possible by the Joseph Lee Endowment administered by the MSU Asian Studies Center and co-sponsored by the MSU Department of Religious Studies, History, and Chinese, and the MSU Library Special Collections.
