Writing and Pedagogy Workshop Series: Publishing

Presenters: Dr. Natalie Phillips, Dr. Ann Folino White, Michael Stokes, June Oh

Publishing your scholarship is essential to making yourself marketable in the academic job market. No matter where you are during your graduate student career, it is never too early (or too late) to start taking publication seriously. Yet, the rigors of publication can appear confusing from a graduate student’s perspective given the challenges of finding a quality journal in your field, as well as the methods one may have to undertake to enter a conversation in a journal or any other publication including edited anthologies. This workshop will be about approaches to the publication process. Our invited guests will discuss the following: What sets a seminar paper apart from a publishable article? What is peer review? How does one communicate with the editors of a journal? The speakers will therefore unlock the mystery called “academic publishing” and discuss how aspiring publishing goals can be actualized into professional achievements.
