Writing & Pedagogy Workshop: Applying to Fellowships and Grants
Faculty Participants: Natalie Phillips
Graduate Student Participants: Jessica Stokes & Stephany Bravo
This online workshop is meant to make students aware of grants, fellowships and awards that are available to them both internally at MSU (in the department and the college) as well as fellowships and grants students might apply to outside of the university. In this session key tips will be provided about how to approach fellowship applications. As these applications can ask for a variety of documents which can also prove very useful in drafting the sorts of documents that are needed in the job application process, it is wise and advisable to put some thought and attention into these writings, as they might form the basis for some of the materials prospective applicants for academic job have to send in to institutions. Furthermore, as there are many kinds of grants, fellowships and awards available to graduate students (inside and outside of MSU), it can be challenging to get all the deadlines and requirements on one’s radar in time. This workshop will therefore highlight the most relevant grants, fellowships and awards a graduate student in our department can apply to. Jessica Stokes will, for instance, be focusing on HIVES grants, RCPD grants, and Transdisciplinary Graduate Fellowship Program run by the center for interdisciplinarity at MSU.
